New Echota, GA - A Virtual Tour
The Worcester House
One day a week was usually set aside for baking. Notice the unique construction of the baking oven and central fireplace. A fire would be built inside the oven, the bricks heated, then the fire would be quickly extinguished and removed. It was the residual heat from the bricks that was actually used for baking.
From right to left, you will see a bellows, for puffing air to feed the fire, metal cooking utensils, straw broom, and baking paddle.
