New Echota, GA - A Virtual Tour
Cherokee Phoenix Newspaper
A view of the printing press and it's tools. The movable type is selected and aligned in the press, then the brayer (gourd shaped tool) collects ink on it's leather bottom, which is then used to apply ink to the movable type. Paper is then inserted and pressed until the ink is transferred onto the paper. This is not the original Phoenix printing press, but it is one from the same period and it still works today.
